Four individuals linked to the alleged abduction and torture of a 30-year-old man in Assin Fosu have been granted bail by the District Court in the Central Region.
The suspects are answering to a six-count charge including kidnapping, conspiracy, causing harm, threat of harm, theft, and the illegal dissemination of intimate images.
Presiding magistrate His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu granted GH¢100,000 bail each with two sureties to Mavis Badu Acheampong, a 42-year-old teacher at Kumasi Girls Senior High School, and Oteng Barfour, 31, an electrician.
The third and fourth accused—security guard Charles Doku, 53, and Kenneth Opoku Kwarteng, alias Culture, also a teacher at Kumasi Girls Senior High School—were granted GH¢60,000 bail each with two sureties. The court directed that one surety for each must be a public servant.
Defence counsel successfully secured the bail applications for all four.
Ransom Demand and Fraud Claims
Prosecuting officers ASP Wonder Lumor and Chief Inspector Gilbert Abagna Anyongo told the court that the accused held the victim, Bismark Amoh, captive between 6 and 11 September 2026.
During his captivity, the victim was subjected to brutal physical abuse whilst his captors demanded a GH¢45,000 ransom from his family.
The prosecution added that the accused accused Amoh of defrauding Acheampong of GH¢44,800 through an electronic transaction, an allegation she has separately reported to the police.
Police are also pursuing a fifth suspect—an unnamed senior military officer believed to have masterminded the operation—who has fled the country.
The court adjourned the case to 23 October 2026 for further proceedings.
