An Accra High Court has deferred its ruling on the bail application for Salomey Baffoe, who faces charges of aiding social media personality ‘Ghana Jollof’ in publishing false information.
The presiding judge adjourned proceedings until 24 September after state prosecutors requested additional time to draft and file their response to the defence team’s petition.
Presenting the request, Assistant State Attorney Carl Afedzi Forson informed the bench that he was stepping in for the substantive attorney assigned to the case. He noted that whilst the Attorney-General’s Department received the service on Friday, the recent public holiday on Monday meant the application had not yet been formally allocated to a handling lawyer within the office.
However, lead defence counsel Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah strongly opposed the delay, stressing that the matter directly involves human liberty and must not be treated with the procedural leniency typical of civil suits. He pointed out that time frames concerning individual freedoms run continuously—even over weekends—and argued that further pushbacks risk leaving Baffoe remanded for a full fortnight before the prosecution even submits its papers.
Reminding the prosecution that state authorities cannot treat an individual’s personal liberty lightly, the court ultimately granted the short adjournment. The bench instructed the Republic to file and serve all relies no later than 9:00 a.m. on 24 September.
