A 40-year-old traditional priest who operated a massive currency counterfeiting syndicate under the guise of a spiritual centre in Kasoa has fled after security forces raided his enclave, retrieving millions in fake local and foreign currencies.
Nana Nyarko Derrick Dapaah went into hiding after tactical units executed a targeted raid at his compound in Amuzu, a suburb of Kasoa, where he allegedly used spiritual activities to mask the sound of heavy printing machinery and evade community suspicion.
The National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), in collaboration with key security and intelligence agencies, disclosed the raid as part of a series of special operations conducted between June 12 and July 24, 2026, aimed at dismantling organised transnational and domestic counterfeiting networks across the Greater Accra Region.
Although Dapaah escaped the initial swoop, law enforcement officers arrested one accomplice at the scene and impounded a currency printing machine, fake gold bars, and five mobile phones.
Officers also recovered USD 477,500, GHS 195,990, and CFA 60,000 in ready-to-spend fake banknotes, alongside unprocessed currency coupons valued at USD 4,700 and GHS 7,300.
The raid formed part of six coordinated operations across primary operational hubs that led to the arrest of 16 principal suspects, the dismantling of four printing factories, and the seizure of four printing machines, six vehicles, and two motorbikes.
Across all operational sites, security forces recovered USD 543,000, GHS 196,600, and CFA 60,000 in finished counterfeit cash, as well as unprocessed coupons worth USD 5,293,500, GHS 19,553,700, and CFA 623,550,000.
All 16 arrested suspects, together with the seized physical and digital evidence, have been handed over to the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) for forensic examination and prosecution. Case dockets have since been submitted to the Office of the Attorney-General, with formal legal proceedings now under way at the Accra High Court.
Security agencies have intensified efforts to locate and arrest the fleeing spiritualist to face prosecution.
