The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced an upward adjustment in the producer price of cocoa for the 2026/2027 crop season.
The announcement was made on Friday by COCOBOD Chief Executive, Dr. Randy Abbey, as part of the opening arrangements for the new season.
Under the revised structure, the price per tonne increases by 2.4 percent (GH¢1,008)—moving from GH¢41,392 to GH¢42,400. This brings the price to GH¢2,650 per 64kg bag.
Dr. Abbey also revealed a realized Free-On-Board (FOB) price of US$2,650 per tonne for the season. The new producer price represents 71.18 percent of this FOB value, demonstrating the government’s effort to guarantee farmers a significant share of export earnings.
This pricing structure aligns with the newly passed Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026. The legislation establishes an automatic adjustment mechanism tied to global market prices, exchange rate fluctuations, and other economic indicators, while legally securing at least 70 percent of the gross FOB price for farmers.
“COCOBOD and all the key stakeholders have approved that the producer price of cocoa be increased from GH¢41,392 per tonne to GH¢42,400 per tonne for the 2026/2027 cocoa season,” Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Randy Abbey announced at a press conference on Friday.
“At every point in time, if there is a need for a review, the stakeholders will meet and look at that and it will not be a bonus or any other thing, it will be a review of the price,” he said.
“If there are factors that suggest that we should do a review, we will look at it and review. Whether an upward review or it must stay the same, we will do it,” he added.
