Alert residents of Somanya in the Eastern Region have arrested two men suspected of stealing a commercial tricycle, locally known as “Pragya”.
The suspects were intercepted after making off with the tricycle, bearing registration number M-26-ES-240, despite the vehicle being locked by its owner.
Recounting the incident, the distraught owner explained that the steering wheel had been securely locked prior to the theft, yet the culprits managed to bypass the mechanism and drive the vehicle away.
However, their escape was short-lived when eagle-eyed community members grew suspicious of their movements. A swift chase ensued, leading to the apprehension of the duo and the successful recovery of the commercial tricycle.
The suspects, alongside the retrieved tricycle, were subsequently handed over to the Somanya Police Command, where the vehicle remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Local residents commended the quick intervention of the community members in curbing crime within the enclave, whilst appealing to law enforcement agencies to step up routine patrols to deter opportunistic criminals in the area.
Police sources indicate that the two suspects will be processed and arraigned before court once preliminary investigations are concluded.
