The National Communications Authority (NCA) has announced a widespread disruption to voice and data services affecting the five northern regions and parts of the Oti Region.
The regulatory body explained that the situation stems from multiple fibre optic cable cuts across three separate transmission corridors that transport telecommunications capacity to the northern part of the country.
The incident has resulted in severe network outages and significant quality degradation across 2G, 3G, and 4G platforms, impacting a substantial number of cell sites.
To resolve the challenge, technical teams from affected network operators, alongside engineers from the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), have been dispatched to the damaged routes to conduct urgent repairs.
In an official statement released on Saturday, September 26, 2026, the NCA assured the public that restoration efforts are actively underway.
“The disruption follows multiple fibre cuts affecting three separate transmission routes that carry telecommunications capacity to the affected parts of the country,” the statement signed by the Authority read. “Technical teams from the affected network operators and the National Information Technology Agency have been deployed to the affected routes, and repair works are ongoing to restore connectivity as quickly as possible.”
The regulator further indicated that it is closely tracking the repair operations to ensure telecommunications services are fully restored within the shortest possible timeframe.
“The NCA is closely monitoring the restoration process and coordinating with the relevant operators and agencies to facilitate the earliest possible restoration of services,” the Authority added. “The Authority regrets the inconvenience caused to consumers in the affected areas and will provide further information as restoration progresses.”
