An iPhone 12 standardly valued at thousands of Ghana cedis was offloaded for a paltry GH₵100.00—a transaction that ultimately unspooled a gruesome murder plot involving luring, assault, body dumping, and arson in the Greater Accra Region.
The buyer, Sunday Omeje, has been cautioned and detained by officers from the Missing Persons Unit for dishonestly receiving stolen property. However, it was the recovery of the mobile phone that led police straight to the heart of a harrowing crime: the kidnapping and cold-blooded murder of 33-year-old Nana Yaw Kyere.
According to a press statement released on September 28, 2026, by Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah, Staff Officer at the Public Affairs Directorate, three main suspects are now in custody in connection with the crime. They have been identified as Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams, and Josiah Obodai.
The nightmare began on September 19, 2026, when Nana Yaw Kyere left his residence at Kokomlemle in Accra behind the wheel of his Honda Civic vehicle. When he failed to return, a missing person’s report was lodged on September 22.
Police preliminary investigations revealed that suspect Sarah Osei Adams lured the victim to the residence of her accomplice, Philip Tefe, situated at Teshie Agbleza.
Once Nana Yaw Kyere arrived at the location, a fierce confrontation ensued. Police say Tefe viciously attacked the 33-year-old, striking him with a heavy metallic object. The bleeding and injured victim was subsequently dragged into another room within the house, where he was abandoned without medical attention until he succumbed to his injuries.
In an effort to cover up the crime, the perpetrators loaded the victim’s corpse into a Kia Morning vehicle on September 20, 2026, and transported it towards the Tema Motorway. The body was dumped into a thicket near Community 18 and set ablaze.
Passers-by discovered the partially burnt remains on September 21, 2026. Three days later, on September 24, the victim’s biological mother and uncle formally identified the remains at the Police Hospital morgue.
Following the trace on the GH₵100 iPhone 12 and confessions from both Tefe and Adams, investigators closed in on their third accomplice, Josiah Obodai, who is believed to have played a key role in disposing of the body.
Detectives have since impounded the Kia Morning vehicle used to convey the corpse, which belongs to Obodai’s father.
All three principal suspects—alongside the buyer of the stolen device—remain in police custody and will be arraigned before court shortly. The Ghana Police Service confirmed that tracking operations remain active to apprehend any additional individuals linked to the murder.
