The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has initiated legal proceedings against Akwatia MP Bernard Bediako Baidoo and media personality Abubakar Alhassan, popularly known as Blakk Rasta, for defamation.
In an official statement issued on Monday, 28th September 2026, the Manhyia South lawmaker confirmed filing a Writ of Summons against the two individuals over what he described as false and defamatory statements published against him.
Awuah noted that his decision to seek civil redress underscores his commitment to democratic accountability, contrasting his action with the government’s approach to handling information disputes.
“Unlike the Government, I have chosen the path of democratic accountability by seeking redress through the civil courts, rather than pursuing criminal prosecution for the publication of what I consider to be false information,” he stated.
The lawmaker also addressed allegations surrounding state security actions, insisting he will not be cowed by official pressure in his advocacy for a detainee.
“That said, I wish to state unequivocally that the attempt by the Government to intimidate and silence me in my quest to fight for the rights of a poor mother of three (3) minor children, who was allegedly taken into custody by state security agents in the late hours of Saturday and remains in police custody, has failed,” Awuah asserted.
Reaffirming his resolve, the MP maintained that he remains committed to pursuing the case through lawful and constitutional channels to secure justice for the woman and her children.
