Teshie not yet a high-risk security zone, security expert asserts

Rising security concerns have gripped the nation following the alleged kidnapping and murder of a mobile phone dealer from Kwame Nkrumah Circle, whose remains were discovered in Teshie.

The police have taken three suspects into custody as investigations continue, but the tragic incident has reignited intense debate surrounding public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement operations across the country.

Evaluating the situation, security analyst Mr Andrews Aseidu Tetteh expressed profound concern, stressing that the country is witnessing an unprecedented surge in covert violent crime.

He pointed out that numerous individuals are being murdered secretly in communities nationwide, with the vast majority of these incidents escaping media coverage and public notice entirely.

He added that many of these heinous acts are only uncovered when perpetrators inadvertently make critical errors during or after the crime.

“The recent security incidents in the country are deeply alarming and must be taken with the utmost seriousness,” Mr Tetteh remarked during an appearance on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s current affairs programme, Nyankonton Mu Nsem. “The security agencies have simply failed to lay sufficient foundations to ensure that perpetrators are promptly identified, arrested, and brought to justice.”

Addressing emerging calls from section of the public for Teshie to be declared a high-risk security zone due to recent violent activities, Mr Tetteh maintained that such extreme measures are not yet warranted. He urged the state authorities and security apparatus to intervene decisively before the neighborhood becomes permanently stigmatised as an unsafe enclave within the capital.

“Ghana has not reached the stage where parts of the capital should be formally declared dangerous security zones,” he observed. “However, the relevant authorities must act swiftly and decisively to prevent Teshie from acquiring a permanent reputation as a dangerous place in Accra.”
