The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has strongly denied reports suggesting that the sector Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has resigned from the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) following alleged disagreements and dissatisfaction.
Describing the claims as entirely baseless, the Ministry clarified that the Minister only asked the Chief Director of the Ministry to step in and represent him on the board in January.
Addressing the media, a spokesperson for the Ministry, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, urged the public to completely disregard the reports.
“Recent claims that the Lands Minister, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has resigned from the Board of the Ghana Gold Board over alleged disagreements and dissatisfaction are false and should be completely ignored,” he stated.
Explaining the rationale behind the Minister’s decision, Schandorf noted that the arrangement was made purely to manage a demanding schedule resulting from extra cabinet duties.
“Indeed, the Minister only requested in January that the Ministry’s Chief Director represent him on the Board due to his demanding schedule, arising from his previous dual role as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology,” he added.
The Ministry further reassured the public that its working relationship with the Gold Board remains intact as both bodies continue their collaborative efforts to tackle illegal mining and strengthen the extractive sector.
“As indicated in the ministry’s official statement this morning, the relationship between the Lands Ministry and GoldBod remains strong, with both institutions working closely to combat illegal mining and advance Ghana’s mining and extractive industry. All reports indicating or suggesting otherwise are false and should be outrightly dismissed,” Schandorf emphasized.
