The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has hosted a delegation from the North Dakota National Guard and the U.S. Embassy in Accra to explore ways of deepening cooperation in disaster preparedness, emergency response, and technical training.
The high-level delegation, led by Brigadier General Mitchell Johnson—Adjutant General of the North Dakota National Guard and Director of the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services—met with the Director General of NADMO, Major Dr J. B. Kuyon (Rtd).
During the meeting, both leadership teams reflected on the long-standing partnership between the two institutions, which was established in 2004, while reaffirming their shared commitment to a renewed and robust engagement.
Outlining future initiatives, the North Dakota delegation revealed plans to hold a major emergency management exercise in Ghana in 2027. This main event will be preceded by smaller joint exercises and continuous technical exchanges aimed at upgrading local operational capabilities.
In addition, the U.S. team provided progress updates on ongoing efforts to supply NADMO with essential operational support, including specialized watercraft and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Major Dr Kuyon expressed appreciation for the continuous support, emphasizing that NADMO remains committed to building on the two-decade partnership to further fortify Ghana’s national emergency response and relief capacity.
