The Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has joined the Minister for Transport, the Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), officials of the Ministry of Transport, and key stakeholders in the maritime industry to commemorate this year’s World Maritime Day.
The commemoration was held at the Head Office of the Ghana Maritime Authority at Ridge in the Greater Accra Region and brought together stakeholders from across Ghana’s maritime sector to reflect on the importance of the industry and its contribution to national development.
The occasion provided an opportunity for stakeholders to highlight the vital role of the maritime sector in Ghana’s economy, particularly its contribution to international trade, transportation, logistics, employment, and economic growth.
Addressing the gathering, Madam Affo-Toffey underscored the importance of continued collaboration among government institutions, regulators, industry players, and other stakeholders in strengthening Ghana’s maritime sector.
She noted that the development of a resilient maritime industry requires a collective commitment to safety, efficiency, innovation, and sustainability, while ensuring that Ghana continues to harness the full potential of its maritime resources.
The Deputy Minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote a safer, stronger, and more sustainable maritime sector capable of contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s economic transformation.
She further emphasized the need for stakeholders to continue working together to improve maritime safety and security, strengthen regulatory frameworks, promote environmental sustainability, and create an enabling environment for growth and investment in the sector.
The gathering also served as a platform for stakeholders to reflect on the evolving challenges and opportunities within the global maritime industry and the need for Ghana to remain responsive to emerging trends.
The Ghana Maritime Authority, as the regulatory body responsible for the maritime industry, continues to play a central role in promoting maritime safety, security, environmental protection, and the development of Ghana’s maritime interests.
The World Maritime Day commemoration therefore provided a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to renew their commitment to a maritime sector that is safe, efficient, sustainable, and capable of supporting Ghana’s broader development aspirations.
Madam Affo-Toffey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, expressed appreciation to the Ghana Maritime Authority, the Ministry of Transport, and all stakeholders for their continued efforts and collaboration in advancing Ghana’s maritime industry.
