The Accra High Court has authorised an arrest warrant for Manhyia South Lawmaker, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, following a request by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
EOCO’s legal team persuaded the court that all reasonable efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary appearance had failed, raising concerns that critical documents could be concealed or destroyed unless a search and seizure warrant was granted. Reports further indicate that another Minority MP is currently under probe regarding the same matter.
The court order marks a significant turn in a feud stemming from ongoing investigations into financial irregularities at SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.
EOCO maintains that Awuah was invited twice in February 2026 in his role as Senior Partner at Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, a law firm tasked with recovering funds for SIC Life.
However, the MP insists he is not the focus of any probe.
He stated that upon receiving the initial invitation, he sought guidance from the Clerk to Parliament due to his status as a sitting MP, while a designated representative from his firm cooperated with investigators on three separate occasions between March and April 2026.
Tensions spiked on 23 September when EOCO officers attempted to apprehend Awuah at the Accra High Court Complex.
EOCO informed Ghanaians that the attempted arrest was careied out in accordance with Section 19 of Act 804, citing the legislator’s refusal to honor invitations.
At the center of the dispute is a recovery effort for GH¢3.5 million invested by SIC Life into the now-defunct Equity Savings and Loans, a debt that accrued to roughly GH¢14 million. Investigators are reportedly looking into a 15 per cent legal fee agreement and related payments to SIC Life’s former management, though no formal charges have been established.
The warrant grants EOCO full legal backing to apprehend the legislator and search for related documents. Attempts to contact both parties for additional comment were unsuccessful prior to publication.
