The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has set in motion comprehensive plans to construct a permanent, ultra-modern facility for the Central Divisional Police Headquarters in Adum, Kumasi.
The development aims to directly address severe structural decay, persistent cell overcrowding, and operational constraints that have long hampered policing activities at the current station.
Under the development arrangement, the Central Government allocated GH₵4.8 million to finance the construction of the permanent divisional complex.
To enable the immediate demolition of the existing premises and start civil works, the Assembly is establishing a temporary operational police station estimated at GH₵750,000.
Private sector organizations, notably the Ashanti Business Owners Association (ABOA), have backed the project by providing seed capital towards the relocation site, bringing total funds raised for the interim facility to GH₵410,000.
Speaking on the initiative, Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi stated that the modern infrastructure project forms part of an overarching municipal security agenda. He added that the Assembly is equally advocating for the establishment of a dedicated Kumasi Metropolitan Police unit to strengthen local enforcement and urban management across the metropolis.
