Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on young women to leverage digital skills to address local challenges and shape the nation’s technological future.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony for Cohort 5 of the Heritage and Cultural Society of Africa Foundation’s (HACSA) Tech4Girls programme, the Vice President emphasized the necessity of including women in the digital economy.
Addressing the graduates, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the importance of translating technical knowledge into viable enterprises and sustainable employment. She noted that while specific technologies will evolve, critical thinking and adaptability remain key to long-term professional success.
“Girls and young women must have a place in our digital future,” she said, encouraging the cohort to identify pressing community problems and engineer practical solutions.
The Vice President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding digital literacy through state-backed initiatives, including the One Million Coders Programme and the Young Women in ICT Programme, alongside strategic private sector partnerships.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended HACSA’s leadership, staff, development partners, and families for supporting the beneficiaries throughout their training.
