Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah under investigation for money laundering, tax offences – EOCO

Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Senior Partner at Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners surrendered himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to assist with ongoing investigations.

In an official news release issued on Thursday, 1st October 2026, EOCO confirmed that Mr Baffour Awuah presented himself at the law enforcement agency’s head office at approximately 10:00 am.

According to the statement signed by the Head of Corporate Affairs and Public Education on behalf of the Executive Director, the legal practitioner’s appearance follows extended efforts by the agency to secure his presence.

“His appearance follows several months of efforts by the Office to secure his attendance before investigators in connection with ongoing investigations into allegations relating to criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering, tax-related offences and other matters under investigation,” the statement read.

Following his voluntary surrender, EOCO indicated that standard operational and investigative protocols were immediately initiated.

“In accordance with those procedures, Mr. Baffour Awuah was subsequently placed under arrest and is currently cooperating with investigators as the investigative process proceeds,” EOCO stated.

The anti-graft agency assured the general public of its commitment to handling the case with complete objectivity and adherence to legal frameworks.

“EOCO further wishes to assure the public that its investigations will progress professionally, independently and in accordance with due process,” the release noted, adding that the office will “pursue all relevant lines of inquiry, examine the available evidence and afford all persons involved their rights under the Constitution and applicable laws.”

The agency urged members of the public to refrain from unverified commentary or making hasty judgments while the legal procedures run their course.

“The public is therefore urged to allow the investigative and judicial processes to proceed without speculation or premature conclusions regarding the culpability of any individual,” the release added.

EOCO assured that further updates on the matter will be made public at the appropriate time and in line with legal provisions.
