A raging fire near the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Substation ‘D’ at Avenor has caused a massive power outage affecting several communities within the Accra West Region.
The disaster, which broke out at the North Industrial Area, forced the power distributor to disrupt electricity supply to safeguard its facilities and protect lives.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, 1st October 2026, the management of ECG, Accra West Region, explained that the blackout was an unavoidable response to the blaze.
“The Electricity Company of Ghana, Accra West Region, wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public in the underlisted areas that the outage being experienced is as a result of a raging fire at North Industrial Area close to our Substation ‘D’ at Avenor,” the statement read.
