Former National Petroleum Authority Chief Executive, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has conceded defeat following the conclusion of the New Patriotic Party’s 2026 National Executive Elections, urging party faithful to unite ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Dr Abdul-Hamid, who lost his bid to secure one of the party’s Vice National Chairman slots, stated in a signed statement that the broader interest of the NPP takes precedence over his individual ambition. Reflecting on his political trajectory, he acknowledged the natural outcomes of electoral contests, noting that enduring both victory and defeat remains an integral part of political leadership.
He congratulated the three victorious Vice Chairmen, expressing his willingness to support the newly elected leadership in achieving the party’s objectives. Dr Abdul-Hamid highlighted his continuous service to the party since 1992, emphasizing that internal cohesion remains essential to restoring the NPP’s core strengths.
Looking ahead to the next general election, he urged members to focus on internal restructuring and strategy. He stressed that the campaign to secure national leadership in 2028 depends on immediate unity and organizational revival within the party ranks.
