A Greater Accra Regional Communications Officer hopeful for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Don Winas, has asserted that he is ready to purchase the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing it as an unattractive political entity that has lost all value in Ghana’s political landscape.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Weekend Morning Show, the aspiring communications officer stated that the NPP has failed to demonstrate readiness to serve as a responsible opposition. He argued that the party lacks clear strategy, direction, and transparency, pointing out that its internal dynamics and governance track record have severely damaged its reputation.
Drawning a comparison to ambitious business acquisitions, Don Winas remarked that just as Wontumi attempted to buy Chelsea Football Club, he would gladly purchase the NPP. He noted that the NPP performed abysmally in the 2024 general election by securing only 38 seats, adding that internal unfairness—such as the exit of prominent figure Alan Kyerematen—further crippled the organization.
Addressing host Eddie Ray, the NDC communicator accused the NPP of using Machiavellian tactics, deception, and unfair practices to sideline aspirants during its internal primaries. He emphasized that even party members have repeatedly described their own internal contests as lacking freedom, fairness, and transparency.
Don Winas further tackled the party’s record while in government, alleging unprecedented levels of corruption and mismanagement. He maintained that these fundamental failures are the primary reasons the party now holds no practical leverage or political worth.
Illustrating his point on the party’s decline, he stated that if the NPP were listed on the stock market, its shares would be completely worthless. He added that even if the party were carried in a pan to Agbogbloshie and offered at giveaway prices, no buyer would take it because it remains deeply divided, destructive, and directionless.
Concluding his remarks, Don Winas likened the NPP to a leaking basket that continues to lose vital stalwarts. He warned that unless the party dismantles its deeply entrenched favoritism and unfair practices, more key members will abandon ship, rendering the entity entirely obsolete.
