The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has released seized foreign currency, local cash, and electronic devices back to former Ghana Buffer Stock Company Chief Executive Officer, Hanan Abdul-Wahab, along with his spouse and driver.

The anti-graft agency handed over £6,700, GH¢2,750, two laptops, and a minimum of six mobile phones following formal intervention by the former CEO’s legal representatives.

The items were confiscated across various phases of a broader investigation into Mr Abdul-Wahab and several associates. A section of the property was impounded during initial investigative steps in 2025.

Officers seized further items—including cash, a laptop, and two mobile phones—on 4 July 2026, when law enforcement officers intercepted the former Buffer Stock head at the airport prior to an intended overseas trip for medical treatment, which had received prior judicial authorization. Following that interception, Mr Abdul-Wahab spent four days in custody before gaining his release.

The release of the property came after law firm Messrs Dame & Partners petitioned both EOCO Executive Director Raymond Archer and Attorney-General Dr Dominic Ayine.

In their formal petition, counsel argued that the specialized agency held no valid legal basis to keep their client’s personal effects, stressing that retaining items unrelated to evidentiary needs created unfair hardship.

Legal counsel noted that when Mr Abdul-Wahab initially presented himself at EOCO headquarters on 9 July 2026 to retrieve his effects after his detention, officials surrendered only an empty purse, his wristwatch, and a boarding pass.

That partial return prompted lawyers to demand a full accounting of all confiscated items, ultimately leading to the surrender of the remaining cash and digital devices.
