A total of 1,568 newly qualified lawyers were officially called to the Ghana Bar on Friday, 9 October 2026, after completing all statutory requirements for entry into the legal profession.
Organised by the General Legal Council (GLC) under Section 7 of the Legal Profession Act, 1960 (Act 32), the enrolment ceremony saw high-profile figures from government, parliament, and the media join the ranks of legal practitioners.
Among the new inductees were several Members of Parliament, including Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George (Ningo-Prampram); Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (Ellembelle); Davis Ansah Opoku (Mpraeso); and Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor (Awutu Senya East).
Prominent media personalities also earned their call, including Umaru Sanda Amadu of Channel One TV and Citi FM, Media General’s Naa Ashorkor Duodu, and broadcast journalist Ayisha Ibrahim. Chief Executive Officers of public and private bodies were also among those enrolled.
Delivering the opening address, Judicial Secretary Musah Ahmed reminded the inductees that their admission marks the start of active legal practice following years of rigorous preparation. He noted that the call to the Bar carries a heavy responsibility to uphold integrity and protect the rule of law.
“As you prepare to receive your certificates, you do not only do so as an individual who has met an exacting standard, but also as officers of the court,” Mr Ahmed said.
Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Chairman of the General Legal Council, subsequently declared the ceremony officially open.

The ceremony also celebrated academic excellence by presenting special awards to top-performing students across various legal disciplines.
Clement Kolamong Kantam received the award for Law of Evidence, while Awuradwoa Asantewaa Nkrumah was recognized in Law Practice Management and Legal Accountancy.
Richlyn Naa Atswei Adjetey earned top honors in Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Keren Naa Amoatsoo Sackey was awarded for Company and Commercial Law Practice.
