The Ministry of Education has expressed its sincere appreciation to three major teacher unions following their decision to suspend a nationwide industrial action.
The three unions—the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG)—agreed to halt the strike after constructive negotiations with the government and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
In an official statement signed by Press Secretary Hashmin Mohammed, the Ministry praised the unions’ action as a crucial step toward resolving outstanding labor grievances.
“The Ministry acknowledges the unions’ decision as a positive step towards resolving outstanding concerns through dialogue, mutual understanding, and constructive engagement in the best interest of teachers and learners,” the statement read.
Reaffirming its commitment to resolving all pending issues, the Ministry stated that it remains dedicated to working collaboratively with the unions, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and other relevant stakeholders. The effort aims to promote teachers’ welfare while ensuring stability and continuity in the delivery of quality education across the country.
The Ministry further commended the patience and resilience shown by teachers, parents, learners, and all affected stakeholders during the period of industrial action.
“We urge all parties to sustain the spirit of cooperation and good faith to ensure that the gains made through negotiations are consolidated,” the statement added.
The statement concluded by reiterating the government’s resolve to strengthen industrial harmony and create an enabling environment where teachers feel valued, supported, and empowered to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s educational transformation agenda.
