The Ministry of Education has invited the leadership of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to an urgent meeting scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026.
The move is aimed at engaging in constructive dialogue to reach an amicable resolution regarding the ongoing industrial action.
In a statement signed by Press Secretary Hashmin Mohammed on October 11, 2026, the government reiterated its dedication to resolving labour concerns through standard negotiations.
“Government remains committed to addressing the concerns of organised labour through established negotiation mechanisms and constructive engagement,” the statement read.
The Ministry highlighted the severe disruption caused by the strike on academic work and student welfare. Parties involved have been urged to display good faith during deliberations to safeguard the interests of tertiary institutions and the nation at large.
“Government also calls on all parties to approach the meeting in good faith and with a strong sense of responsibility, mindful of the impact of the ongoing industrial action on students, university communities and the broader national interest,” the Ministry noted.
Calling for direct cooperation, the government encouraged GAUA leadership to make the most of the dialogue to ensure normal operations resume swiftly across affected public universities.
“Government urges the leadership of GAUA to seize this opportunity for meaningful engagement and work collaboratively with the relevant stakeholders towards an early resolution of the impasse,” the statement added.
The Ministry expressed optimism that the engagement will yield positive results, facilitating a swift return to normal academic and administrative activities.
