The leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association has reiterated its resolve to stand by Nurse Salomey Awiti Baffoe as she navigates her ongoing legal battle linked to the widely discussed Ghana Jollof controversy.
Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, the National President of the Association, delivered the assurance during a recent visit to the Bono Region, marking the commencement of the third phase of the National Executive Committee’s regional tour.
Nurse Baffoe currently faces a charge of abetment of crime, specifically the publication of false news, under Sections 20(1) and 208 of the Criminal Offences Act of 1960. Prosecutors allege that she aided Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, widely known as Ghana Jollof, by circulating videos and enlisting others to share the material, though these claims remain unproven in a court of law and the accused has entered a plea of not guilty.
Addressing the media and local members during the visit, Mrs Ofori-Ampofo emphasized that the national leadership had closely monitored the situation from its inception and had already deployed legal representation to safeguard the welfare of the embattled nurse.
While acknowledging that the legal troubles do not stem directly from Nurse Baffoe’s professional clinical duties, the GRNMA president maintained that the association’s mandate to protect and support its members extends to personal adversities of this nature. She assured the membership that the union would remain steadfast throughout the duration of the judicial proceedings.
In response, Nurse Baffoe expressed profound gratitude for the continuous backing extended by both the GRNMA leadership and well-meaning Ghanaians since the legal challenge began.
