Ghana’s government has officially dispatched a contingent of over 100 health workers to Grenada as part of its ongoing Labour Export Programme, aimed at plugging critical manpower gaps in the Caribbean nation’s health sector.

The Ghanaian medical personnel are set to work across various health facilities in Grenada under a two-year renewable contract, delivering vital medical services to bolster the country’s healthcare system.

At a brief farewell ceremony before their departure, Chief of Staff Dr Julius Debrah charged the team to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, reminding them that their output and behavior would shape the image of Ghana abroad.

He noted that while their expertise got them the opportunity, their demeanor and attitude would determine their ultimate success.

“Your certificate or your qualification may open the door for you, but your character will determine how long the door will be kept open,” Dr Debrah said.

Dr Debrah further urged the health practitioners to serve with utmost dedication to ensure Ghana maintains its standing as a hub for well-trained and dependable healthcare workers.

Adding his voice, the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, cautioned the personnel to abide strictly by their contractual terms and exhibit unalloyed professionalism throughout their engagement in Grenada.

He also reminded them to make it a point to return home once their tenure lapses.

“Go and work well, don’t mess up. Try and raise the flag of Ghana. Be professional. Professionalism is key. This is what we expect from you,” he said.

Mr Agyekum revealed that government is actively pursuing similar bilateral arrangements to send more nurses to Germany and other Caribbean nations as part of a broader strategy to secure global job opportunities for Ghanaian health workers.

The Labour Export Programme forms part of state efforts to create international employment avenues for Ghanaian professionals while helping partner countries resolve labor shortfalls in critical sectors.
