The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has stated that it will engage its membership regarding the outcomes of recent discussions with the Ministry of Education before determining the next steps for its two-month-long industrial action.

While the association anticipates communicating its definitive stance following consultations after Tuesday, October 13, 2026, an exact timeline for the announcement remains unconfirmed. This development comes in the wake of high-level stakeholder talks held on Monday in Accra. The meeting at the Ministry of Education brought together the leadership of GAUA, the Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG), the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu.

Appearing on the current affairs broadcast Nyankonton Mu Nsem, Lawyer Augustine Amissare, President of GAUA-UG and Immediate Past General Secretary, shed light on the prolonged deadlock that has kept the university administrators off campus. According to him, the administrative staff remain eager to resume their professional duties, yet they are being held back by a perceived lack of earnest engagement from the employer’s side.

“Our members are fully prepared to return to work, but the employer is yet to show any genuine commitment toward resolving our concerns,” Lawyer Amissare noted, highlighting the frustration surrounding the protracted stalemate.

The ongoing strike continues to impact administrative functions across public tertiary institutions as university authorities and labour representatives await the outcome of GAUA’s internal deliberations.
