President John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans to channel $2 billion annually over the next four years into accelerating national industrialisation, expanding domestic production, and creating sustainable job opportunities.

The proposed funding forms part of the government’s broader $10 billion New Economy Programme designed to position Ghana as a primary manufacturing and logistics hub across West Africa.

Addressing attendees on Thursday, 15 October 2026, during the sod-cutting ceremony for the Afienya Industrial Park, President Mahama stated that the initiative directly targets the productive sectors of the economy.

Half of the allocated capital will go towards boosting agriculture and agro-processing, while the remaining portion will build essential infrastructure and industrial facilities to seamlessly link local producers with regional markets.

The President highlighted that establishing the new industrial park addresses mounting investor demand alongside acute space constraints at the Tema Export Processing Zone.

Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, who serves as Board Chairperson of the Free Zones Authority, stressed that securing land free from legal encumbrances remains crucial for attracting private capital and avoiding costly project delays.

Drawing on her extensive legal background, she commended local traditional authorities and host communities for their cooperation in releasing undisputed land to support industrial development across the country.
