Personnel from the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) taskforce have raided an illegal mining site at Esaman in the Wassa East District of the Western Region.
The unannounced early-morning operation saw the security officers storm the bush site to disrupt illegal mining activities in the enclave.
During the enforcement exercise, several wooden structures serving as makeshift accommodation and operational bases for the illegal miners were brought down.
Reports gathered indicate that a motorcycle and dozens of vehicles found at the location were set ablaze by the taskforce.
Some suspected illegal miners encountered during the sweep were reportedly subjected to physical force by officers on the ground.
The latest operation forms part of ongoing national measures to clamp down on galamsey operations and dismantle active illegal mining hubs across affected districts.
