A tragic road accident at Dapalani, near the New Market stretch in Walewale, has left two persons dead and up to 12 others severely injured.

The fatal crash occurred when a long trailer registered in Burkina Faso, carrying a heavy load of POP cement, suffered an apparent mechanical failure. Eyewitness accounts and initial reports indicate that either a brake loss or a locked steering wheel caused the vehicle, bearing registration number 4878H1 03, to veer wildly off course along the busy township corridor in the West Mamprusi Municipality.

In a terrifying sequence, the runaway truck plowed through multiple vehicles, crashing into a Toyota Voxy registered UE 679-26, a delivery truck carrying motorbikes, several motorbikes on the road, and local utility poles, causing extensive destruction.

Municipal Chief Executive Mohammed Jabaah and local emergency officials clarified that two casualties have been confirmed so far, comprising a male motorcyclist and a female student. Between eight and 12 other victims sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where medical staff are working to stabilize them.

Emergency personnel and local authorities have since cleared the mangled wreckage and restored the flow of traffic through the municipality, while police continue their investigations into the exact cause of the tragedy and officials assist families affected by the crash.
