The Ministry of Education has issued a stern warning to school authorities across the nation to desist from imposing unapproved fees on parents and mismanaging food supplies allocated for students.
According to the Ministry, such practices represent a gross betrayal of trust that directly undermines the country’s educational welfare.
Speaking at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Zamse Senior High/Technical School (ZAMSTECH) in Bolgatanga, the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, stressed that school heads must ensure all government-provided food reaches the dining halls uninterrupted.
He pointed out that parents should not be subjected to extortion through unapproved levies, nor should any student endure hunger because school management diverted food rations.
Dr Apaak clarified that the directive is a general caution to institutional administrators nationwide and not an indictment of ZAMSTECH’s management.
Turning his attention to institutional discipline, the Deputy Minister highlighted the rising concerns regarding student misconduct across senior high schools. He emphasized that resolving indiscipline requires a united front rather than relying solely on government regulations.
He called on teachers, parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and local communities to collaborate closely in fostering a safe, disciplined, and supportive learning environment for students across Ghana.
