Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has demanded a strict application of the law regarding the alleged sexual misconduct involving Zakaria Abdulai, the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS).

Expressing grave concern, the Vice President emphasized that the matter carries national significance and cannot be treated lightly, given its potential long-term consequences for the affected students.

“What I want to say at this point is that this is a very, very serious matter. It is a matter of concern to all of us, and it is a matter of national concern,” she stated.

She further stated, “What I want to see is that we all allow the law to take its course, because this is a very serious matter, especially as it affects the lives of people, not only in the present, but also going into the future. So, let’s allow the law to take its course.”

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang delivered the remarks shortly after arriving back in the country from Shanghai, China, where she attended the Global South Academic Forum.

Her statement follows the interdiction and subsequent apprehension of Mr Abdulai after allegations surfaced regarding his sexual misconduct and abuse against female students at the institution.

Meanwhile, the Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak had urged the public to trust the justice system, reminding citizens that Ghana is a democracy where an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt, especially in defilement cases which attract severe penalties.

He made a passionate appeal for calm while expressing absolute confidence in the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

”I can vouch with my life she will not compromise anything on this. I have absolute trust in her that this matter will not be swept under the carpet. It will travel its full length, and it will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he told the Committee. I can swear to you that the CID Boss will not sleep on this.”
