Rev. Joshua Terkpernor, Eastern Regional Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and member of the National Coalition of PTAs, has stated that the interdicted headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) ought to be punished if found guilty of sexually abusing students.
He noted that the matter must be thoroughly investigated and, if the headmaster is found culpable, appropriate punishment must be administered.
He urged the relevant authorities to investigate the issue thoroughly and ensure the most appropriate sanctions are applied.
According to him, authorities must demonstrate commitment to ensuring the police pursue justice to the fullest in the alleged sexual assault case.
Speaking in an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated that it is his considered view that if the headmaster committed any offence, he must face the full rigor of the law.
”If it is established that he indeed engaged in such an act, he must be sacked, prosecuted, and given the harshest punishment,” he said.
Turning his attention to parents, he advised them to remain responsible and actively engaged in the welfare of their children so they can quickly identify when their wards are facing challenges.
Rev. Joshua Terkpernor added that parents must also discipline their children and empower them to stand up for themselves against abusers.
The alleged defilement case at Obuasi SHTS has generated widespread public outrage, with calls for swift and transparent investigations.
The incident is currently being investigated at Police Headquarters, with investigators making progress, including efforts to obtain DNA evidence.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak urged the public to trust the justice system, reminding citizens that Ghana is a democracy where an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt, especially in defilement cases which attract severe penalties.
He made a passionate appeal for calm while expressing absolute confidence in the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
”I can vouch with my life she will not compromise anything on this. I have absolute trust in her that this matter will not be swept under the carpet. It will travel its full length, and it will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he told the Committee.
