Retained National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman for Ayawaso Central, Hon. Harry Otu Hesse, has dismissed claims attributing the party’s 2024 general election gains in the Greater Accra Region to the Regional Chairman, Ashie Moore, describing such credit as ridiculous.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the constituency chairman accused Mr Moore of operating as a lone ranger who consistently refuses to listen to advice or accept input from party stakeholders.
He told host Kwabena Agyapong that the regional chairman did nothing extraordinary to secure victory for the NDC in the region, adding that his tenure was marked by a lack of leadership and consultation.
“Ashie Moore’s time as Greater Accra Regional Chairman was a terrible experience,” Mr Hesse stated. “People credit him for the gains we made in the 2024 elections in the region, but that is not the case. What exactly did he do? He is the Regional Chairman, but he failed woefully at his job. I am a chairman and I know what I am talking about. As chairmen for the constituencies, we needed motivation for the campaigning activities, but where was Ashie Moore? I am talking from experience. Where was Ashie Moore during the 2024 elections?”
Addressing why he did not confront the regional chairman earlier, Mr Hesse explained that Mr Moore maintained an unapproachable leadership style that shut out the rest of the regional executives.
“He was a boss of himself,” he noted. “He does not listen to any advice. He did not consult or collaborate with the party leadership in the region.”
Mr Hesse further revealed that Mr Moore actively worked against his re-election as Ayawaso Central Constituency Chairman, an effort that ultimately failed. He added that while the regional chairman has since sought reconciliation, he has no interest in patching things up with someone who lacks respect for his colleagues.
Vowing to oppose Mr Moore’s bid to retain his position in the upcoming regional executive elections, Mr Hesse declared that he would do whatever it takes to ensure the regional chairman is voted out.
“I also have an interest in his re-election campaign,” Mr Hesse warned. “He did all he could to make me lose my seat. He engineered having the election organised at the Kotobabi Police Station, which was not part of the Ayawaso Central Constituency, all in an attempt to make me lose. He came to the polling grounds, but I knew the plans of my enemies had failed to work. I am taking a direct interest in the regional elections and will campaign against him so he loses his seat.”
