The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, widely known as OK Frimpong, remains in Dutch custody following the rejection of two separate bail applications by authorities in Amsterdam.
Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, confirmed the development while briefing journalists on the ongoing legal situation involving the legislator.
“He is still in custody. He’s still in the hands of the Dutch government in Amsterdam. We have done two applications, one substantive, one appeal for his bail, but they all got refused,” he stated.
Dutch authorities apprehended the Ghanaian lawmaker on May 10, 2026, at Schiphol Airport after he arrived from Ghana aboard KLM Flight 590. Parliamentary leadership subsequently acknowledged his detention on May 12, indicating that active engagements were underway with Ghana’s Mission in The Hague to monitor the proceedings.
Attention has now shifted toward the upcoming judicial process as parliamentary leadership prepares for the formal extradition proceedings in the Netherlands.
“The extradition hearing will take place on the 18th of November 2026,” Dafeamekpor confirmed.
Scheduled for 11:00 AM at a court in Haarlem, the hearing will decide whether the MP should be handed over to United States authorities.
The initial arrest was triggered by a formal extradition request originating from the US, where a magistrate court in Illinois issued a warrant connecting the case to allegations of romance scams, fraud, and money laundering involving approximately $32 million. The claims remain unproven and have not yet been tested in court.
