Ghana is witnessing the fastest economic recovery in its history under the stewardship of President John Dramani Mahama, Majority Leader in Parliament, James Agalga, has asserted.
Delivering his welcome address as Parliament resumed sitting, Mr Agalga stated that the government can boldly point to key economic indicators to support the milestone achieved.
“We can boldly point to the fastest economic recovery in Ghana’s history under the stewardship of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama,” he stated.
According to him, the administration has successfully navigated a star-studded exit from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, witnessed a rapid drop in inflation, maintained a confident cedi, rebuilt foreign reserves, and achieved the quickest debt reduction in recent history.
“Mister Speaker, we have secured a star-studded exit from the IMF program which has seen a rapid decline in inflation, a confident cedi, international reserves built back better and the quickest debt reduction from 65 to 45 percent of GDP in just one year,” he said.
The lawmaker cited the IMF’s latest assessment of the nation’s fiscal trajectory as solid proof of the government’s economic management.
“The International Monetary Fund, the IMF, has recently in its World Economic Outlook for October 2026 upgraded our 2026 growth forecast from 4.6 percent to 5.7 percent and projects inflation to fall to 4.8 percent by year-end, down from 7.9 percent earlier projected,” the Majority Leader added.
