The Justice and Accountability Forum has issued a stern appeal to the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies in the country to immediately address escalating security concerns regarding rampant land-guard activities and the forceful takeover of properties belonging to legitimate individuals.

According to the Forum, numerous rightful landowners across the capital are in imminent danger of losing their properties to aggressive land guards, despite holding full documentary evidence and legal title to their land.

Executive Director of the Forum, Nana Bonsu, warned that failure by the relevant authorities to clamp down swiftly on these illegal actions could trigger widespread violence across affected communities.

Highlighting a specific case in point, Nana Bonsu revealed that intelligence gathered by the Forum indicates a land dispute involving a bonafide property owner at Okpoi Gonno is precariously close to turning bloody following direct threats issued against the rightful owner.

The property in question, measuring approximately 0.103 hectare (0.255 of an acre), is backed by an official Land Certificate bearing number GA.29608, Volume 02, Folio 781, issued under the seal of the Land Title Registry in Accra in the name of Abu Zein on 19th May 2009.

The site plan, delineated under Survey Plan No. Z 17019 and certified by the Director of Surveys, explicitly confirms the spatial boundaries and legitimate ownership of the plot within the L.T.B. District 02 at Okpoi Gonno.

According to him, the legal chain of custody for the property dates back to a formal Indenture lease executed on 29th November 2006 under instrument reference number IR 3484/2006.

The grant was made by Nuno Borketey Larweh, Gboebu Wulomo, and Nii Bortrabi Obroni II, acting as the nominal and lawful representatives of the Nungua Stool, transferring the parcel to Abu Zein for a 99-year term.

The transaction was fully witnessed, validated under oath of proof at the Circuit Court Registrar on 28th February Road, Accra, and officially stamped after the payment of duty under Act 311 of the Stamp Act on 18th December 2006.

He told host on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM that despite these exhaustive legal filings, customary covenants, and state registrations guaranteeing peaceable enjoyment of the land, aggressive encroachers and armed land guards have repeatedly attempted to hijack the property.

The Forum maintains that such brazen disregard for state-backed land title registration undermines the rule of law and threatens public peace. The civil rights group insists that unless security forces take immediate and decisive action to protect law-abiding citizens and arrest the perpetrators, the escalating tension at Okpoi Gonno risks deteriorating into a fatal conflict.
