The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has suspended the proposed burial and funeral rites of the late Madam Vivian Joana Abla Holmes, also known as Naa Dedei Omaedru III, former Ga Manye.
The decision was reached at a meeting held on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, following mounting traditional objections and potential security implications surrounding the performance of the rites.
The intervention follows strong opposition raised by traditional authorities over the family’s usage of royal titles.
“The meeting was informed that the Ga Traditional Council had vehemently raised objections to the family’s use of the stool name Naa Dedei Omaedru III in all activities relating to the performance of the rites,” the Council noted, adding that intelligence indicated “the family had declined to comply with the directive issued by the Ga Traditional Council”.
Following extensive deliberations with elders of the Omaedru We family, REGSEC unanimously resolved “that the family shall not be granted approval to proceed with the burial and funeral rites until it has engaged extensively with the Ga Traditional Council towards reaching an amicable resolution of the matter”.
The Council warned that strict measures have been put in place to enforce compliance, confirming that “personnel from the relevant security agencies will be duly deployed to ensure the directives of REGSEC are followed to the letter”.
In the official communication signed by Chief Director Rev. Harry Nii Kwatei Owoo on behalf of the Regional Minister, REGSEC formally requested the traditional authorities to “take note of the decision and make itself available to engage with the Omaedru We Family towards facilitating an amicable resolution of the matter before any arrangements for the burial and funeral rites are pursued”.
