The Board Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has officially re-launched the Free Fertilizer Distribution Programme at Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region, reassuring cocoa farmers of the government’s continuous support to boost productivity.

Addressing farmers and stakeholders at the ceremony, Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo stated that the initiative highlights the government’s firm commitment to supporting cocoa farmers, enhancing their livelihoods, and easing the heavy financial burden associated with purchasing farm inputs.

He urged farmers across the region and the nation to ensure the proper application of the distributed fertilizer to restore soil fertility, maximize cocoa yields, and sustain the country’s cocoa output.

Touching on long-standing concerns regarding the mismanagement of farm inputs, the COCOBOD boss issued a strong warning against the diversion and smuggling of the free fertilizers.

He disclosed that advanced tracking technology has been deployed across the supply chain to strictly monitor distribution from central warehouses directly to the farms, ensuring that only intended beneficiaries receive the inputs.

The event marks a major step in the government’s renewed drive to revitalize the cocoa sector and safeguard the welfare of cocoa farmers nationwide.
