A staff of the Sandama District Office of the Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited, was on Saturday allegedly attacked and wounded by residents.
The incident occurred while the PDS staff had gone to collect bills in the area.
The suspects according to report assaulted the PDS staff until he fell unconscious.
The residents were said to have taken the action because they claimed unannounced power cuts had destroyed their electrical gadgets and home appliances hence they were unwilling to pay their bills.
Reporting the incident on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Abubakar Nuhu said the PDS staff went to a house where his attackers were living to collect the bills because they were using the postpaid meters.
“But when he got to the house, the tenants refused to pay and started exchanging insults with him. The staff also responded by insulting the tenants. The tenants then started attacking him. They assaulted him until he started bleeding profusely, ” Abubakar reported.
He added that one of the tenants, a cold store operator had threatened to assault anyone who dares come to collect bills because his cold store business had collapsed.
When asked if any of the tenants had been arrested, he said, the police has launched an investigation into the matter but no one has been arrested.
