Flagbearer hopeful Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has stated that if Voltarians support him for the presidency, he will take up the mantle of late President Jerry John Rawlings as their godfather.
The former trade and industry minister was speaking to delegates from various constituencies gathered in Aflao in Ketu South, Dzodze in the North, and Sogakope in Central Tongu.
He told the delegates that he shares some of the charisma of the late President Rawlings and pleaded with Voltarians to love him as much as they loved the late President in order to give him the ability to lead the country and make sure that the Region receives its fair share of the national pie.
He has therefore pleaded with them to support him in the NPP primaries in November and, ultimately, in the 2024 presidential elections so that he can carry on the helpful role the late President played in the development of the Region.
Although the Volta Region is regarded as a “no go area” for the NPP, the candidate claimed that after he is chosen to lead the NPP, the political landscape will change because he is confident in the support of the populace.
He urged them to support someone who had already been tried and tested and who enjoyed broad public support.
According to him, doing so would allow the NPP to “break the eight,” as opposed to the candidate who would only be able to represent the party at the national elections while coming up short.
