Michael Afake, the sight manager at the Kintampo Water Falls, has urged the public to disregard reports that galamsey activities are destroying the water body.
Videos and photos of how the water flowing from the Falls had turned a brown colour dominated the media space in the last couple, with many calling on authorities for switch action.
Others also blamed galamsey activities, which have already destroyed some major water bodies, but Michael Afake has denied the reports that the change in colour of the water was a result of illegal mining activities.
According to Michael Afake, the colour of the Kintampo Water Falls changed to brown because of the rainy season.
“I can confirm that the videos are from Kintampo Water Falls, but the commentaries about the water being destroyed by galamsey activities are not true.”
“Many rivers from neighbouring villages flow into the Falls, so normally in rainy seasons, the source of the falls gets muddy because it carries all sorts of dirt down to the mountains, and that was what you saw.”
“It happens during every rainy season, not just as a result of galamsey activities,” Michael Afake told Kwabena Agyapong on the Rainbow Radio Morning Show on Thursday, October 12, 2023.
