They can shoot us, arrest all of us, and we will still have a demonstration in September – Democracy Hub

July 18, 2024
DEMO-750x375

Nana Yaw Yeboah, one of Democracy Hub’s leaders, has made it clear that no amount of intimidation or threats will prevent them from arranging a three-day demonstration.

He clarified that the planned demonstration will take place in Revolutionary Square and cannot be categorised as a security zone.

Democracy Hub has announced its intention to hold a three-day demonstration from September 21–23 at Revolutionary Square, across Liberation Road, opposite the Jubilee House.

The group says it has formally notified the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, in accordance with the Public Order Act. The protest, organised by the group, will begin at 6:00 a.m.

Nana Yaw Yeboah, speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, noted the three-day demonstration is to highlight critical issues affecting the country, including socio-economic injustice, unemployment, rising poverty, state capture, nepotism, corruption, and the need for judicial independence.

He told host Kwabena Agyapong that no amount of intimidation from the police, courts, or other state institutions will deter them.

“We have informed the police that we want to demonstrate. All we have to do now is wait for the date to arrive so we can demonstrate. The last time we informed them of our intention to demonstrate, we were hauled to court, and the case was adjourned to January although the demonstration was scheduled for December. We can no longer tolerate such injustice. So, this time, whether it’s the Supreme Court or the Inspector General of Police, we’ll be out in there to demonstrate.

We don’t care if they shoot us. We don’t care if they arrest all of us. We are coming out to demonstrate in September. We will not listen to anything the court says. We mean it. We are not going to listen to any court, we are not going to listen to any police, and we are not going to listen to any security minister. We are going out on September 21 to demonstrate. They can go wherever they want to us, and we are ready to face it.”
