We’re for peace, but when the when the NPP comes to our doorstep with war, we’re prepared to defend ourselves – NDC Man

A former parliamentary candidate for Effutu on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Victor Yankson, has issued a strong warning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rescind any plot to orchestrate trouble in the upcoming manifesto launch of the NDC and the general elections.

The private legal practitioner says the NDC will not sit unconcerned and allow the NPP to use intimidation and violence against them.

The lawyer was speaking in reaction to leaked audio that has been attributed to Mr. Joseph Nicholas Bondzie, the constituency chairman for the NPP in Effutu constituency.

In the said audio, the individual who identified as a party chairman in the Effutu constituency was heard inciting members of the NPP and youth in the area to mobilise themselves and do everything possible to sabotage the manifesto launch of the NDC.

Reacting to this, the former NDC parliamentary candidate noted that it is unfortunate that when the National Peace Council is negotiating with the NDC to sign the peace pact for the 2024 general elections, the NPP is also plotting to intimidate the NDC at its manifesto launch.

He revealed that when Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang came to the area for her tour, the MP led Alexander Afenyo-Markin led a group of people to disrupt the tour of the running mate.

He said if the NDC has been admonished to sign a peace pact and yet members of the NPP are trying to bring war to the doorstep of the NDC.

He stressed that should the NPP bring war to the doorstep of the NDC, members of the party would be forced to match them boot for boot.

For him, ‘’we are ready for them. If they observe peace, we will observe peace with them. If they bring violence, we will meet them with violence. No one will be going to court this time. We will settle the score on the field, so they should come; we are ready for them,’’ he warned.

He said, ‘’If we’ve allowed them to do their launch in peace and they want to wage war, they should come. If Ghana belongs to them and we are not part of it, But if we are part of it, they should observe our rights, and we will accordingly observe their rights. We will not attack them. We will not be the first to cast a stone, but they should watch out. If they come, we are ready for them,’’ he warned.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he posited that in some cases, the police have watched on while violence is meted out to innocent people, including NDC members; hence, they would do everything in their power to protect themselves.

‘’If they want peace, we will give them peace, but if they come with war, we are also prepared to defend ourselves,’’ he added.
