‘The arrogance of power, greed, and selfishness displayed by some appointees pushing us into opposition’ – NPP UK

September 21, 2024
wofa kay

Chairman of the United Kingdom (UK) branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, otherwise known as Wofa K, has opined that the arrogance of power if not checked could prevent the party from breaking the 8-year-jinx.

He indicated that the NPP has achieved a lot under President Akufo-Addo, but the wickedness, greed, and selfishness of some party people are gradually making the party unpopular.

Wofa Kay noted that some appointees who have had the opportunity to serve in the government are so arrogant and do not treat people with respect.

Speaking in an interview with Sir Richie on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM ‘As it is in Ghana, the Chairman, who previously served as Vice Chairman, lamented Ghanaians are fed up with the way some appointees have behaved.

He alleged that some of the people who are managing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign have also refused to pick up their calls.

‘’The NPP, by our own wickedness, selfishness, and greed, and the arrogance displayed by some appointees, is affecting the chances of the party. Some of our people who have had the opportunity to serve are so arrogant, so people are so fed up. As I speak with you, some of the people who are behind Dr. Bawumia’s campaign don’t pick up their calls. It is out of order, and I will condemn that anytime I mount a platform. I will not be on this platform and make baseless claims. You cannot claim to want my vote, but when I call you, you don’t pick up, and yet, you are telling me to be campaigning. What are you talking about? This is purely a sickness that needs to be treated. I am strongly praying for Bawumia to win by a landslide. It has to be, but the arrogance of people is affecting us.’’

He stated that he would have on a regular basis moved to Ghana to join the campaign, but some activities ongoing in Ghana about Bawumia’s campaign are not the best.

According to him, he does not need the money but wants to do the work and speak to Ghanaians on what is at stake, but ‘’where are we today? We have to have done so much and don’t need to communicate with the people on what we have achieved. We need to plead with the people and apologise to the people we have offended. Those who put in money to support us in 2016. Everybody was part, and yet we have failed to recognise them for what they did for the party’’.

‘’I know there are people listening to your show across the world. If we win the elections, it would be by a landslide, but we have a lot to do. It is not about what we have done. It is about changing our lifestyle. We need to change our attitude and appeal to the people. The only reason why our people are upset with us and have refused to vote for us is not solely because of Akufo-Addo, but because of the arrogance of power by some appointees. Akufo-Addo has achieved a lot, and his record is unmatched, but the arrogance of power is affecting us. Ghanaians are not angry with the NPP or the President, but they are annoyed because we have become so arrogant and we need to tame it down. That is the problem, and that is a fact. Let us give respect to our people and tell them the truth.’’
