During the meeting, the Chamber and the Ministry discussed several issues, including land administration, nationwide rezoning of lands, land banks for developmental projects, the development of smart cities, and growth in the real estate sector.

The other issues were the surveying council bill and regulatory framework and the exploration of additional strategies to enhance land administration while addressing related challenges for national development.

Another critical area of interest that came up for discussion was centred on aligning national lands and housing infrastructure development with climate-resilient strategies and best practices.

President of the Chamber, Nene Emmanuel Tetteh Martey, underscored the need for proper demarcation and registration of stool lands, citing Rwanda’s approach as a model.

He also recommended zoning areas for natural resources to ensure their appropriate use.

He lamented the difficulties that real estate stakeholders were experiencing, particularly in terms of accessing land and obtaining clear titles.

He appealed to the government to provide essential infrastructure, such as roads, electricity, and water, to reduce housing costs.

Regarding the Survey Council Bill, the Chamber stressed the urgency of passing the bill, which is currently with the Attorney General’s Department, to regulate the sector effectively.

Mr. Kwesi Poku, another member of the Chamber, stressed the importance of collaboration between ministries to tackle urban planning challenges.

According to him, there was the need for comprehensive mapping to help investors comprehend land use in different regions.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP, affirmed his commitment to advancing the passage of the Survey Council Bill.

He assured the Chamber of his dedication to following up on the bill with the Attorney General’s Department.

The minister further expressed gratitude for the visit and reiterated the importance of maintaining open dialogues with all stakeholders to address the sector’s challenges effectively.
