The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice have announced the successful extradition of three Ghanaian nationals, namely Isaac Boateng, Inusah Ahmed, and Derrick Van Yeboah.

These individuals allegedly played key roles in an international criminal organization responsible for orchestrating romance scams and business email compromise schemes, resulting in the theft of over $100 million from numerous victims.

The extradition of the three individuals was executed on August 7, 2025, following the extradition of key suspect Kwame Asare several weeks prior.

Isaac Oduro Boateng (“Kofi Boat”), Inusah Ahmed (“Pascal”), Derrick Van Yeboah (“Van”), and Patrick Kwame Asare (“Borgar”) are accused of masterminding a sophisticated fraud ring that targeted vulnerable individuals and businesses across the United States.

Boateng, Ahmed, and Van Yeboah have been extradited from Ghana and appeared before Magistrate Judge Robert W. Lehrburger in the US on August 7, while Asare remains at large. Jay Clayton, US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, emphasised that online scammers operating offshore should be aware that law enforcement agencies will collaborate globally to combat online fraud and bring perpetrators to justice.

FBI Assistant Director Christopher G. Raia condemned the deceitful tactics employed by the accused, stating that the FBI will continue to ensure that individuals who prey on companies and vulnerable Americans online face justice.

According to case details, the four individuals allegedly operated a criminal organization based in Ghana that tricked older adults into fake online romantic relationships, convincing them to send money or assist in laundering stolen funds.

The four have also been accused of hacking business email accounts to deceive companies into wiring millions to their enterprise.

The proceeds of their alleged crimes were laundered back to West Africa, directed by “chairmen” who managed operations, with Boateng and Ahmed identified as key leaders.

The defendants, aged between 36 and 40, face multiple charges, including wire fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy, and receipt of stolen money, each carrying a potential prison sentence of up to 20 years.

Below are the full details of the charges.
