Ghana is a fundamental pillar in the stability and progress of Africa, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has claimed.
According to him, his longstanding engagement with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) deepened his appreciation of Ghana’s role in the region.
He disclosed this during a meeting with President John Dramani Mahama on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Japan.
The meeting between the UN Secretary-General and President Mahama focused on strengthening international partnerships for Africa’s development and reinforcing regional cooperation for peace and stability.
In lauding Ghana as a shining example in the subregion, the UN Secretary-General declared,
“I have to say that since my time in government, I have had close relations with ECOWAS in solving some challenges within the region. Since that time, I have always considered Ghana a fundamental pillar not only in the construction of West Africa but also of the African continent,” he said.
