Current Ayawaso Central MP is a mess, his own party regrets filing him as candidate – NPP Chair

Bismark Boateng, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Ayawaso Central Constituency, has asserted that constituents in the area are already expressing regret over electing the current Member of Parliament, Hon. Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu.

Chairman Boateng claimed in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM that the elected legislator is rarely seen in the constituency and, notably, does not reside there.

He reflected on the situation, stating, “I will not entirely blame the constituents, but they had no prior knowledge of the political strength of the MP when he was contesting, and they are now seeing the outcome of his performance.”

Mr. Boateng contrasted this with the tenure of the former MP, Henry Quartey, whom he described as someone who “worked so hard for the constituency” but unfortunately lost the seat to the current MP in the 2024 General Elections.

”The former MP, Henry Quartey, was someone who worked so hard for the constituency, but unfortunately lost the seat in the 2024 general elections to the current MP. I will not blame the constituents for voting for him, but they had no idea about his political strength, and so they are now seeing his performance,” he reiterated.

Despite the loss, Chairman Boateng issued a strong advisory to NPP members, urging them not to let the current challenges compromise their unity.

”I encourage members of the party in Ayawaso Central to remain united, loyal, and dedicated to the NPP. We have lost the seat to the NDC. If we stay united and work hard, we will reclaim that seat,” he declared.

He further criticized the performance of the current MP, suggesting the discontent transcends party lines. “The MP is underperforming. Even his own National Democratic Congress (NDC) party members are peeved. He has moved out of the constituency. The constituents do not see him. Since he won the seat, we have not seen him again.”

Chairman Boateng even challenged the media, saying, “You are a journalist, and I am encouraging you to go and conduct your own investigation. If we [NPP] do our things right, we will snatch the seat back.”

When pressed for an assessment, Mr. Boateng scored the MP’s performance so far at a low 30 percent out of 100.

”I don’t know what he has done since he was elected as MP. I have been charitable by scoring him 30 percent because I don’t know what he has achieved. He has done nothing at the moment, but because he is my MP, I have to be charitable,” he explained. “His own NDC members have regretted voting for him. That is why I am encouraging the NPP to remain resolute; we will win back that seat.”
