The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has strongly affirmed its consistent and prompt payment of pensions every month, without exception.

Mr. Kwesi Afreh Biney, the Director General of SSNIT, made this declaration at the 2025 SSNIT Symposium, held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

He stated categorically that for many years, SSNIT has remained a dependable pillar, emphasizing that “not on one occasion has SSNIT defaulted in its obligations to provide income security for the Ghanaian worker.”

Mr. Afreh Biney highlighted that SSNIT’s investment strategy extends beyond systems serving the Ghanaian populace. He noted the Trust has also invested in national infrastructure that supports business growth and strengthens confidence in the economy, adding, “this is indeed a legacy of Service.”

As SSNIT celebrates its 60th anniversary, he stated, it looks to the future with hope, purpose, and clarity.

He noted that Ghana’s three-tier pension system remains a vital pillar for national development, ensuring that every worker in the public, private, and informal sectors is properly captured.

He commended the past Director General, Dr. Tenkorang, for the work done through the SEED (SSNIT Electronic-registration and E-payment Development) initiative.

Focus on Strengthening and Expanding Coverage

Mr. Afreh Biney went on to state that the current focus is to make the scheme stronger, more inclusive, transparent, and responsive.
He declared that a key priority for SSNIT is to expand coverage to include traders, artisans, and self-employed persons, reiterating that every worker in Ghana deserves income security in old age.

To facilitate this expansion, he said SSNIT has been exploring alternative service delivery methods, including collaborations with banks. This initiative has successfully launched with ECOBANK, with plans to scale up and increase the number of partner banks to 27 by the end of the year.

The Director General further assured that SSNIT will continue to invest in areas that enhance its sustainability, highlighting that their investments, especially in Cenit Energy, have yielded great returns.

He acknowledged that sustaining the Trust requires continuous reforms.

Addressing the need for adaptability, he quoted the importance of ongoing reform:

“We are SSNIT recognises that sustaining the trust requires continuous reforms and innovation. We must ensure that the National Pension Act (Act 766) evolves,” to include all forms of work to include digital entrepreneurship, remote employment among others.

He concluded by stating that SSNIT will continue to serve with integrity, transparency, and innovation while enhancing customer service through technology.

His concluding remarks offered a vision for the future: “as we celebrate 60 years of service, let us take pride in how far we have come acknowkeged the challenges that we meet and commit to building a future defined by innovation, inclusion and sustainability. The next 60 years must see an even stronger SSNIT one that continue to protect the Ghanaian worker, support families and strengthened the very essence of the people we serve”.
