‘Wicked Bawumia whose convoy knocked down a lady in 2021 has refused to come to her aid’ – Group

A group operating under the name The New Ghana Social Justice Forum is publicly demanding compensation from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President, for Miriam Umar, a woman allegedly injured by his convoy in 2021.

During a recent protest led by the group, Convenor Yahaya Hassan stated that the former Vice President has failed to take responsibility for the pain inflicted upon the young woman by his convoy.

Mr. Hassan alleged that since the 2021 incident, Dr. Bawumia has completely ignored the victim, who is reportedly still suffering and unable to financially support herself.

Mr. Hassan described the situation as unfortunate, wicked particularly given that the group has utilised several avenues—including formal letters, petitions, and various public platforms—to draw the attention of the former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana to Ms. Umar’s severe plight.

Yahaya Hassan emphasised that for an individual currently seeking the highest office in the nation, ignoring the victim undermines the very foundation of his public image.

“For someone who wants to be elected as President, he cannot ignore the victim, since that undermines his claim of being a man with compassion and having the interest of the underprivileged at heart,” Hassan asserted.

The group detailed the circumstances of the incident, stating: “In 2021, a convoy of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia knocked Mariam Umar in Kumasi… The victim was reportedly on her way to deliver a bowl of light soup to her sick grandparent when the convoy knocked her down around the Sawaba junction.”

The Convenor further alleged the convoy “was travelling at a top speed and on its way to catch a flight,” and that since the incident, the former Vice President “has not responded to all the letters we have written to him over the matter. He is only interested in his campaign to be elected President.”

The New Ghana Social Justice Forum has issued an ultimatum, giving Dr. Bawumia until Friday, November 7, 2025, to “do what is right,” warning that they “will advise themselves” if their demands are not met.
